Thread: Top 10 Vols in your draft

  1. #1

Default Top 10 Vols in your draft

Looks like Basilio is going to discuss this today. Who would you take based just on sheer talent . I know the draft is a lot about needs but just for discussions sake.

    1. Peyton- can't pass on one of the Top 5 qbs ever

    2. Reggie White- ditto on one of the Top 5 DTs of alltime

    3. Doug Atkins- ditto on one of the Top 5 DEs of alltime

    4. Eric Berry- best DB we ever had

    5. Bob Johnson-second player taken in 68 draft

    6. Jamal Lewis-one of only 5 rbs to ever run for over 2000 in a season

    7A. Haynesworth-

    7B. Henderson

    9. Stanley Morgan- the most under-rated player in our history, if he had played on a good team he would have been a bona fide Heisman candidate

    10. Deon Grant- 2nd best db ever

As great as Bob Johnson was, never take a center that high.

    Manning
    Reggie White
    Carl Pickens
    Doug Atkins
    Eric Berry
    John Henderson
    Jamal Lewis
    Dale Carter
    Willie Gault
    Hacksaw Reynolds

Others to consider: Witten, Morgan, Holloway, Johnson, Al Wilson, Mayo, Galbreath, Irwin, McGee, McKenzie, Roland James, Curt Watson, Chuck Webb
Dooley on tryin to draw Vandy offside on 4th-2: "Didn't work. It usually never does. But you've got to do it, just in case there's 1 moron."

"We proved that we've got a room full of tough guys," Brown said. "I'd rather be a Tennessee Vol and lose every game than go somewhere else and win them all." - Wes Brown

    1. Peyton - Enough said
    2. Reggie White - HATE anything Philly related, but dude was a single handed game changer, period.
    3. Jason Witten - unguardable, plain and simple. He is a mismatch for anyone on the field that tries to cover him.
    4. Bill Bates - I put Bill Bates in the same category as Chris Speilman. When you teach your kid how to play football you can look at either of these 2, and say "go play like one of those 2 guys" and that's all ya gotta say. hard nosed, 110% on every play and one of the best and most under-rated at their positions.
5-10. interchangeable, but I believe Berry will be in this list someday. Jamaal Lewis, no way, his window for being a great back was 3 yrs. I can name about 1000 rb's that were great for 3 yrs.

Spot on Nibs with your number 4. Give me a team full of those 2 types and I'll kick some ass...

I guess that is why he was MVP in the fooking NFL. I doubt you can name too many that had that distinction twice that played for UT. Stick to slow football

    1) How many NFL MVP's in that group?

    2) How many 2000 yard in a season rushers in that group?

    3) Lewis is the #21 rushing leader of ALL time per http://espn.go.com/nfl/history/leaders/_/stat/rushlead

Wrong big time about Lewis. Pure freak athlete at #235+ pounds with blazing speed.

Rich Gannon, Saun Alexander, and Steve McNair all won mvp's and none of them are considered great at their positions either. Quit being such a bunch of defeisve homer douches, I didnt say he wasnt a good back, just not one of the greats, which is he is not due to the amount of years he was at the top of his game.

I assume you would include Eddie George in your list due to YOU being the defensive homer douch but ole Eddie is #23 on that All Time list where Jamal is #21. You just don't get to be #21 on the frickin All Time NFL rushing list being a few year wonder. Jamal will be considered for HOF due to that #21 ranking, being NFL MVP, and being one of a very select few to ever rush for over 2000 yards in a season.

Plus at #235-245 he could run circles speed wise around that slow assed Big 10 RB Eddie George!!! Jamal Lewis was Bo Jackson type freak athlete as far as size/speed combo.

Lewis would make my list based soley on the fact that he broke the face masks of two different defensive players one year. He's the biggest badass we've ever had at RB.

Ditto on the Stanley Steamer. How many players can you say have both rushed for 200 yards and had 200 yards receiving in a game (not the same game)?

He was a freak, despite being only about 180 lbs.

I like them all but I would have to find a place for Al Wilson in there somewhere.

You would have to put Harry Galbreath in there considering he was a main stay in the Dolphins O line for many many years..
