Default Jamal Lewis' NFL career ends a month early

New NFL rules about return to the field of play after a concussion are now in effect.

Down in the story is the note that Jamal Lewis's career has ended early, even though he had announced that this would be his last season.

On Wednesday, Cleveland Browns running back Jamal Lewis was put on injured reserve with post-concussion symptoms, ending his NFL career

Default A pro RBs functional life is short

    My my, hey hey
better to burn out than to fade away

He was a great one when he was at his best. Tremendous college and pro RB with a whole bunch of "what ifs" attached to his legacy.
I mean, it could happen, right?

    two SEC titles
    one MNC
    one Super Bowl ring
    single game rushing record
nearly a single season rushing record
sitting 2 games under Phil because he didn't know how to block

The guy has a pretty hefty list of accomplishments

Jamal Lewis, from the time he entered the NFL, was voted by the players as the hardest man to tackle in the whole league. That is an accomplishment in its self.

Add what Birmy said. The dude did Tennessee very well in the NFL.

Default If Flumtard had started Jamal in the Texas Tech

and UCLA games before Florida in 97 he would have gained at least 400 yards more and we probably would have beaten Florida in the Swamp and Peyton would have won the Heisman. That would have given him close to 1800 yards for his true freshman season.

Peyton and Jamal might be the 2 best college players who ever played in the same backfield. Peyton is one of the Top 5 qbs of alltime and Jamal is one of only 6 to ever rush for 2000 yards in a single NFL season.

jeez, if he could only have learned those intricate blocking assignments(like pick up the first man through)

    Which begs two questions:

    1. Jamal for NFL HOF (is there a rushing ydg number threshold)?

    2. Jamal to get jersey retired at Kneeland, given their various criteria?

I blame Cutcliffe for that, too. Lewis was one of those guys you see in high school and you know he's gonna be a great college player. Sometimes they don't translate...no question about him. Why he didn't see field vs. UF has got to be one of the greatest brain farts in history.
