From Ktown, there was a deli that had a couple of stores that made the best friggin sack steaks in the universe stuffed in pita bread.

The guy had a marinade for a traditional philly cheesesteak type ribeye. It was great. I like to make cheesesteaks at home but I've never been able to replicate that marinade. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

May not be the place you're talking about, but we used to get a steak in a sack at Vic and Bill's. It was in the Fort in the same building as The Carousel.

Yeah, it was a camel jockey place that was on Kingston near Walker Springs. Are they still there?

Oh yeah Time Out Deli is still there. Several others have steak in a sack now, too. Sam and Andy's, Nixon's, Gus'.....

Yep, thats exactly who it is.

The Lebanese word for what they make is called schawarma. Here's a marinade I found

Ingredients:

* 2 lbs beef, prime rib is best
* 1 cup plain yogurt
* 1/4 cup vinegar
* 2 cloves garlic, crushed
* 1 teaspoon pepper
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 2 cardamom pods
* 1 teaspoon allspice
* juice from 1 lemon
* ___________________________
* FOR THE SAUCE:
* 1 cup tahini
* 2 cloves garlic, crushed
* 1/4 cup lemon juice
* 2 tablespoons yogurt
* ___________________________
* PITA FILLINGS:
* 8 loaves of pita bread or 4 large
* thinly sliced cucumbers
* thinly sliced onions
* 1/2 teaspoon sumac
* thinly sliced tomatoes
* 1/2 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
* pickle slices (optional)

Makes sense.

That says Ali Baba is the same place I remembered from college. He did an article on them a few years ago.
